Saint Luke’s Health System (SLHS), a not-for-profit health system in the Midwest, has selected PeriGen’s PeriCALM foetal surveillance system, to provide real-time access to automated assessments of labour progress and foetal heart rate patterns at seven of its hospitals.

SLHS has signed an agreement to implement the foetal surveillance system in its seven metro and regional birthing hospitals, in north-west Missouri and north-east Kansas.

The hospital decided to deploy the PeriCALM foetal surveillance system after observing the benefits of upgrading their current perinatal system to the PeriCALM platform in a demonstration performed by PeriGen’s obstetrics team.

Saint Luke’s East Hospital chief nursing officer and COO Gloria Solis said hospital’s clinicians, quality administrators and IT staff are all excited to roll-out the PeriCALM platform.

"PeriGen’s evidence-based foetal surveillance and decision support functionality, coupled with its experience interfacing with Epic builds upon our mission to outfit our hospitals with the most sophisticated medical technology," Solis added.

"SLHS has signed an agreement to implement the foetal surveillance system in its seven metro and regional birthing hospitals."

PeriCALM is reportedly the first system deployment in the state of Missouri, which will involve interfacing labour and delivery (L&D) patient information and foetal strip data to the SLHS’s EPIC enterprise-wide electronic health record (EHR) system early next spring.

PeriCALM features Visual Cueing, which helps direct clinicians to the most essential patient information displayed on the screen.

These dynamic visual cues help clinicians spot trends over time, to assist in preventing complications, increasing patient safety and reducing risk for clinicians and hospitals.

PeriGen CEO Matthew Sappern said SLHS is well regarded in the industry for their forward-thinking vision and commitment to quality care.

"We are excited to work with Saint Luke’s, and consider them close and valuable partners in our efforts to build innovative systems in support of better outcomes," Sappern added.

Most importantly, PeriCALM platform provides automated, real-time pattern recognition to interpret foetal heart tracings, while helping monitor labour progress with clinical decision support conveniently at the bedside.

Saint Luke’s Health System consists of ten area hospitals and several primary and specialty care practices, and provides a range of inpatient, outpatient and home care services.
