Carilion Clinic, a not-for-profit healthcare organisation in Roanoke, Virginia, has selected eHealth technology provider Orion Health’s Rhapsody integration engine to enable system-wide integration for its existing health IT infrastructure.
Rhapsody was chosen to replace Carilion’s previous integration engine due to its ease of use, as well as its flexibility and scalability of deployment.
Carilion, which has already started implementing Rhapsody, will use it to connect disparate health IT software and applications across its 195 facilities throughout Virginia.
Rhapsody, a healthcare-specific integration engine, provides complete interoperability among internal, regional and national health information systems, regardless of technology or standards.
It also provides comprehensive support for a vast range of communication protocols and message formats, ensuring connectivity between all systems within and between organisations.
Carilion Clinic chief information officer Kay Hix said seamless integration between IT systems and stable application interfaces are the critical components that underpin Carilion’s technology infrastructure and ensure reliable connectivity for all of Carilion’s clinicians.
"Orion Health Rhapsody Integration Engine will provide our analysts with an intuitive, stable solution for linking and monitoring the systems we use to provide coordinated, quality care close to home for nearly one million Virginians," Hix added.
Rhapsody’s features help interface analysts and hospital IT administrators reduce their workload while meeting complex technical challenges.
Rhapsody also provides administrators with improved personal notification options, scheduling tools and real-time activity streams to ensure important updates are received by the appropriate person.
According to Orion, its Rhapsody integration engine has been deployed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and nearly every state and local health departments, for public health reporting.
Orion Health North America vice president Harish Panchal said Carilion Clinic’s dedication to the community and millions of patients the organisation serves is a model for delivering care in today’s changing healthcare landscape.
"With the installation of Rhapsody as Carilion’s integration engine, Orion Health will partner closely with the organisation to support its vision for local, coordinated care across Virginia," Panchal added.
Carilion Clinic serves nearly one million people in Virginia through its hospitals, outpatient specialty centres and advanced primary care practices.
