The Australian Government has announced A$175m ($171.1m) for the redevelopment of Logan Hospital in Meadowbrook, Queensland.
The money will fund a new emergency department building, 50 new beds, improved site access, workplace facilities for staff and improved access for patients so they can receive timely care for surgery and emergency treatment.
The redevelopment work will begin later in 2011 and is scheduled to be completed by 2013.
With this additional funding, the government has invested more than A$230m ($225.7) in Logan Hospital.
Queensland Minister for Health, Geoff Wilson, said that the funding boost was more than welcome news for one of Queensland’s busiest public hospitals, which sees about 63,000 attendances in its emergency department each year.
