Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH) and the Hospital of Saint Raphael (HSR) in Connecticut, US, have signed a letter of intent to explore the potential integration of the two hospitals.
Under the agreement, YNHH would purchase the assets of HSR to form one hospital with two campuses in New Haven.
In addition, YNHH would invest an estimated $135m in capital improvements on the HSR Campus.
HSR president and CEO Christopher O’Connor said that the proposal provides the opportunity to better serve the region by transforming and improving the delivery of healthcare.
“It would also bring financial stability to HSR, and help YNHH address capacity issues by better utilising both campuses,” Connor said.
YNHH is a 966-bed, not-for-profit hospital, which serves as the primary teaching hospital for the Yale School of Medicine. HSR, an 511-bed hospital, is affiliated with Yale University School of Medicine.
