SpinalMotion, developer of the innovative technology for the treatment of patients suffering from degenerative disc disease, announced that it has started enrolling patients for a clinical study of the Kineflex cervical artificial disc.

Existing cervical disc designs utilise either cobalt chrome or titanium metal end plates, which cause interference with MRI imaging at the level of the disc replacement.

The Kineflex cervical disc, made of ceramic and endplates, is designed in a way that it minimises MRI interference and improves patient follow-up to provide important clinical information as an alternative to CT scan.

Zuid Afrikaans Hospital senior spine surgeon Louis Nel said that the Kineflex cervical disk provides the option to treat cervical disc disease as it uses a clinically-proven design that does not interfere with MRI imaging.
