Werribee Mercy Hospital in Australia has opened a new $1.2m short-stay unit.
The 10-bed suite is expected to cut waiting times for emergency department patients by delivering intensive short-term assessment, observation and care to suitable emergency patients.
The short-stay unit is also expected to enhance emergency department efficiency, capacity and patient flow.
The hospital is also developing a $14million childbirth centre, which will increase the number of maternity beds from 24 to 32 and double the number of special care nursery cots to eight, reports wyndhamweekly.
