A laptop containing the cardiology and orthopaedic data of 14,380 patients treated between February 2004 and February 2009 was stolen from the Moses Cone Hospital, North Carolina, US.

The hospital says the laptop was password protected and that it would be difficult for that information to be misused. It has offered free credit monitoring to all patients involved following the incident.
