The Kokomo-based healthcare providers in the US state of Indiana have implemented a new clinical information system with enhanced security called the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE) service.

The web-based service delivers clinical reports such as lab results and treatment information in real time instantly to the required health location.

Howard Regional Health System and St Joseph Hospital's physicians and patients are benefiting from this service and 39 hospitals in Indiana are sending approximately 2.8 million messages each month to more than 10,000 Indiana physicians.

Forty-one hospitals have already been connected through the IHIE system and plans are on to expand.
