The US state of Indiana has launched a nationwide initiative to develop health information technology (HIT).

The state is known to have one of the most advanced HIT sectors in the country.

Public-private collaboration BioCrossroads is leading the initiative Exibhit Indiana (Expanding Indiana's Breakthroughs in Health Information Technology) and has launched a new website.

The site has descriptions and links to network partner organisations and offers information regarding health IT opportunities under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Indiana has five operating health information exchanges which are the country's largest and longest-running, HIT-adopting hospitals and physicians, and creative entrepreneurial organisations, BioCrossroads said.
