UK fertility clinics will be required to spell out costs to every patient before the start of treatment, according to new guidelines by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA).

The HFEA’s 8th Code of Practice comes into effect on 1 October 2009 clinics and will make sure clinics provide treatment plans to help patients know how expensive their treatment would be.

HFEA Chair Lisa Jardine said that with the majority of people in the UK funding their own treatment, cost was a major concern.
