The Australian Government has granted A$2.6m to Melbourne's Sunshine Hospital and $800,000 to be spread across the city's Western Health network for improved elective surgery facilities.

Sunshine Hospital will be enhanced with a new surgery theatre and a reconfigured operating room area to allow dedicated paediatric recovery streaming, the government said.

The grants are part of the second stage of the Australian Government's elective surgery plan, investing A$600m to enhance hospital services and reduce surgery waiting times.
