Australia has launched a new state-wide computer programme in New South Wales (NSW) to train medical staff in diagnosis and treatment options for children.

The programme aims to provide information to doctors and nurses on the 12 most common conditions suffered by young patients attending emergency departments, the NSW government said.

The e-learning package will enable medical staff to test their knowledge about common childhood ailments in a simulated environment.

The new programme is a part of the NSW Government's Caring Together: The NSW Health Action Plan with a four-year A$485m investment aimed at bettering patient care.
