St Elizabeth Healthcare is implementing a large-scale electronic medical records (EMR) project to connect hospitals, clinics and physicians offices in Northern Kentucky, US.

The six-hospital system consisting of nearly 1,000 physicians, 31 primary care doctor's offices and four imaging centres and clinics will deploy Epic's software, powered by IBM servers.

The state's largest EMR project is expected to improve patient care and lower costs of care by replacing existing paper-based records of over 50,000 patients, IBM said.

The EMR system will provide physicians with real-time access to patient history and faster access to lab results to make more informed decisions, the company said.
