Presbyterian Healthcare Services has resumed construction of the Rio Rancho Medical Center in New Mexico, which was postponed in 2008 because of inadequate funding.

Presbyterian will invest $165m in the 66-bed medical centre, which is expected to be complete by 2011.

The new facility will offer intensive and emergency care, cardiac and maternity services, operative procedures and MRI services.

The environmentally friendly hospital design includes lighting and low noise for faster healing as well as spacious rooms for patients and their families, Presbyterian Healthcare Services said.
