US healthcare organisation HealthPartners has integrated a radiology picture archiving and communications system (PACS) with its existing electronic health record (EHR) system.

Merge Healthcare's PACS has been integrated with its EHR from Epic to optimise radiology workflow, improve quality of care and reduce costs, Merge said.

A PACS eliminates the manual delivery of information to radiologists from various departments and cuts report turnaround time to referring doctors, HealthPartners officials said.

The new technology has been deployed at Wisconsin's Regions Hospital and 18 HealthPartners outpatient clinics and medical offices have gone filmless.

The integration has already resulted in improved operational efficiencies, better patient care, and increased physician and patient satisfaction, hospital officials said.
