A new A$4.9bn GP Super Clinic is being built in the Australian state of Victoria, bringing the total number of government-funded super clinics to 34.

The GP Super Clinic is to be opened in Portland and will focus on reducing avoidable hospital admissions, the government said.

The Portland clinic, to be run by a consortium led by Portland District Health, will focus on diabetes-related health services as well as drug and alcohol treatment. The new clinic will also offer family planning and dental services.

The government has plans to provide telehealth services in the clinic to outreach centres in western Victoria, to support self-management in diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
