South Africa's government has called on all pregnant women with flu-like symptoms to be immediately prescribed Tamiflu by health workers.

The directive comes after the country registered an increasing number of H1N1 flu deaths, most of which were pregnant women with some suffering from underlying conditions such as diabetes and tuberculosis.

Other countries have declared the third trimester of pregnancy as a vulnerable stage for H1N1 sufferers, the government said.
