Mount Carmel Health System in the US state of Ohio is planning to expand its St Ann's campus at an estimated cost of $100m.

The expansion, over the next three to five years, will enable the hospital in Westerville to offer open-heart surgery and a full range of cardiovascular services, Columbus Business First reports.

St Ann's will be equipped with new operating rooms, cardiac catheterisation and electrophysiology labs as well as a larger observation unit for chest pain cases, the news agency reports.

Plans also include the addition of 30 new inpatient beds and a parking facility.

The expansion will be next to the existing emergency room for the greatest efficiency, a hospital spokesperson said.
