Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in the US state of Los Angeles is building a $130m facility in Hollywood to expand its paediatric services.

The new 160,000ft² building, which will begin construction on 5 October, will offer paediatric, ambulatory, radiology and outpatient oncology services, Hollywood Gazette reports.

The hospital will also house a 24-bed paediatric medical and surgical unit, 24-bed paediatric oncology unit, two endoscopy or special procedure suites, operating rooms, a conference centre and a two-storey atrium.

The new hospital will be connected to the existing children's hospital facilities and Memorial Regional Hospital through an elevated walkway, the news agency reports.

The hospital is scheduled to open in late 2011.
