North Florida Regional Medical Center (NFRMC) in the US has received funding approval for the second phase of its campus expansion plan.

The $35m project includes the addition of a 46,500ft² intensive care unit housing 24 patient rooms and renovation of the 7,700ft² existing patient care area for 12 new telemetry beds.

The expansion will add 28 beds to the facility, increasing NFRMC's licensed bed capacity to 353.

The project also includes construction of a 562-spot parking garage and will allow construction of an additional Medical Arts Office building in the future, NFRMC said.

Construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2010 and be complete in the next 14 to 18 months.
