More than 2,700 hospital workers at 35 public hospitals in New Zealand are planning to hold a protest over the wage freeze on 16 October.

The announcement comes after District Health Boards and contractors did not offer any pay rise to hospital workers this year, even after months of wage negotiations.

Government officials announced that the wage freeze could continue for as long as five years.
