The UAE plans to spend $81.6m to electronically link government and private hospitals across the country.

The Wareed project will also provide health data access to international medical institutions, according to business24-7.ae.

The first phase will link 14 government hospitals and 68 health centres and enable a unified file for each patient to be reviewed and updated at any hospital or centre.

The second phase will connect local government hospitals to the network, while private sector hospitals will be linked in the third phase, enabling patient files to be transferred to foreign hospitals.

The first phase of the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2011.
