The UK has published regulations for health and adult social care providers to operate under a new registration system.

The regulations set out the essential standards of safety and quality of care providers must deliver for users of their servicesm and gives them flexibility on how they do it, the government said.

The new system will be introduced for NHS healthcare providers in April 2010 and for private and voluntary healthcare and adult social care providers from October 2010, following governmental approval.

Providers of primary dental care and private ambulances will be covered in 2011 and primary medical care providers in 2012, the government said.

It will then become illegal for bodies to provide services that come under the framework without registering.
