Film X-rays have been replaced with a new system that provides digital images at five hospitals across New Zealand's Waikato District Health Board.

The picture archive communication system enables hospital staff to view images and results from X-ray, CT, ultrasound, MRI, nuclear medicine, fluoroscopy and angiography instantly on their computer screens.

The new system provides images that are magnified, enhanced and can be printed for a better view for quicker and more accurate diagnosis, the government said.
