US Gives Funds to Reduce Healthcare Infections in Surgical Centres

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has granted $9m in 43 states to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). The grants will be used in stand-alone or same-day surgical centres. HAIs kill nearly 100,000 people and add an extra $30bn in healthcare costs

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has granted $9m in 43 states to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).

The grants will be used in stand-alone or same-day surgical centres.

HAIs kill nearly 100,000 people and add an extra $30bn in healthcare costs every year in the US, according to HHS.

The funding is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
