A new one-step point-of-care-diagnostic test to detect heart disease and a number of other illnesses has been developed by IBM.

IBM's portable diagnostic test gives quick and accurate results, helping doctors to predict a heart attack patient's survival rate and make informed clinical decisions, IBM said.

Based on an innovative silicon chip that requires less sample volume, the test has been developed in collaboration with Switzerland's University Hospital of Basel.

The new diagnostic test uses capillary forces to analyse tiny samples of serum, or blood, for the presence of disease markers.
