Uganda has received a grant from the Japanese Government to renovate and purchase medical equipment for two hospitals in the Masaka and Mubende districts.

The first stage of the project will involve the provision of medical equipment and rehabilitation of facilities such as the maternity ward, operation theatre and outpatient ward for the benefit of more than 344,000 people in the region, according to www.newvision.co.ug.

Under the $1.4m (SH2.8bn) grant, the renovation work will be commissioned in 2010, as part of the second phase of the project.
