US politicians have begun merging the Senate's healthcare legislation with the House version after the bill was passed in a vote on 24 December 2009. The $871bn bill, which extends medicare services to 30 million uninsured Americans, was passed with 60 votes, which included go-aheads from

The $871bn bill, which extends medicare services to 30 million uninsured Americans, was passed with 60 votes, which included go-aheads from 58 Democrats and two independents.

The final bill will be signed after it gets merged with legislation passed by the House.
