Knowledge Ventures in the US has partnered with Orthoworld to connect orthopaedic professionals to facilitate the transfer of orthopaedic equipment needed by the victims of Haiti's earthquake.

Knowledge Ventures managing member John Engelhardt said people are suffering because of the lack of equipment.

"While there are teams of orthopaedic surgeons down there, there is desperate need for plates and screws, nails and ex fix, as well as drills and saws," Engelhardt said.

The American Association of Medical Colleges has also created a new page on its website to serve as a reliable source of information that includes a list of organisations accepting charitable contributions.
