American Imaging Management (AIM) has launched new educational podcasts as part of its patient safety programme.

The latest set of podcasts discuss radiation exposure associated with cardiac imaging procedures, including cardiac computerised tomography.

These podcasts give physicians and patients a full understanding of the benefits and the radiation exposure associated with diagnostic imaging procedures to make informed and clinically appropriate decisions.

AIM's programme also includes the "Ask AIMEE" web application, which provides information and physician messaging when imaging orders are submitted for patients who have already been exposed to significant levels of radiation from previous imaging studies.

As many as 15,000 deaths a year could be caused by radiation from imaging, a study said.
