Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the UK has announced its withdrawal from its bid to run a debt-ridden NHS hospital, which will be now run by one of the remaining five private bidders.

The remaining five candidates participating in the bid are Care UK (Partnership Health Group), Circle Health, Interhealth Canada (UK), Ramsay Health Care UK and Serco Health.

The successful partner from these five organisations will take over the operation of the hospital, which has debts of nearly £40m, from 2011. Staff and assets will remain with the NHS.

The successful partner will be named later in 2010.
