A new reconstruction system that improves the ability of medical professionals to treat spinal conditions that require fusion or procedures performed from the back of the spine has been launched by US medical technology provider Medtronic.

Medtronic’s Vertex Select Reconstruction System allows for a posterior approach that can be used to treat patients with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, fracture, dislocation, failed previous fusion or tumours.

The system, combined with the Vertex Select Occipitocervical Module, includes a comprehensive posterior cervical upper thoracic spinal system that offers adjustability through multiple plate designs, rods, screws and hooks.

The combination gives surgeons more options during surgery, enabling them to tailor the procedure to each patient’s needs, according to dotmed.com.
