Mafraq Hospital, owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA) in UAE, is planning to introduce new technologies at its multi-disciplinary neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to improve patient care.

The Abu Dhabi-based hospital is planning to launch a telemetry service, which will enable the remote monitoring of patients and allow the hospital to increase accommodation capacity from 59 to 75 patients.

Telemetry technology is designed to enable hospital staff to maintain real-time monitoring of every patient.

Mafraq Hospital NICU head Dr. Taisser Atrak said, "Our consultants provide expertise in all of the most important areas of support including neonatal surgery, paediatric endocrinology, pediatric pulmonology, largest pediatric neurology group in UAE recruited from world-class children’s hospitals in USA, pediatric neurosurgery and pediatric orthopaedics, diagnostic echocardiography and even dietary guidance and specialist NICU pharmacists."

The NICU is at present recruiting more staff to support the critical care expansion programme.

Mafraq Hospital chief medical officer Dr. Mohamad Yaman said that an understanding of environmental factors and patient care is a vital part of the care offered by the hospital.

"Special measures are in place to deal with noise control, whilst the team actively promotes kangaroo care (skin-to-skin bonding) and breast-feeding, providing full-time lactation consultants. These ‘softer’ tactics are absolutely central to our overall methodology and our positive patient outcomes prove their efficacy," Dr. Yaman added.
