The Charite hospital (Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin) in Germany has selected Stanley Healthcare Solutions’ AeroScout asset tracking and management solution to improve its operating room efficiency.
The hospital and its majority-owned subsidiary, Charité Facility Management GmbH (CFM), will leverage the Wi-Fi real-time location system to update the central sterilisation process, by reducing the time taken to move and sterilise equipment and operating room delays.
The technology platform will use Charité’s Cisco unified wireless network that provides access to mobility services and applications to trace critical medical equipment in the Campus Virchow-Klinikum.
CFM executive director Ingrid Maßwig said it is important for any hospital to continually seek out and eliminate inefficiencies in the OR.
"With the Stanley Healthcare and Cisco solution, we’ve taken an important step toward further increasing OR efficiency, reducing costs and supporting patient safety," Maßwig added.
The AeroScout asset tracking and management solution features Autoclave Tags for tracking surgical equipment from sterilisation to the operating room and AeroScout’s MobileView software for a map view of the hospital and identification of all equipment.
The AeroScout Autoclave Tag, designed for cleaning and sterilisation involving steam, high temperatures, high pressures and vacuums, attaches to and tracks surgical instrument trays and other equipment.
Charité is considering implementing a patient flow application to locate patients throughout their hospital visits.
Stanley Healthcare Solutions European sales vice president Eric Devineau said: "It is also a model of efficiency for other hospitals throughout the region, which is why we’re especially proud to be working with Charité to further streamline its OR and sterilization processes."
