Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) in California, US, has chosen Siemens’ Image Sharing & Archiving (ISA) solution incorporated with Dell’s clinical data management software.

Siemens’ cloud-based ISA solution is designed to provide a vendor-neutral image archive for storing and sharing radiology images and related clinical data.

Dell’s cloud clinical archive provides archiving support for the Siemens Healthcare Computing Centre.

PVHMC chief information officer Kent Hoyos said, "By moving our data centre from the hospital’s basement to the cloud, we will realise significant long-term cost savings while continuing to offer state-of-the-art diagnostic services for not just our 3D mammography images but for all of our patients’ images."

"By moving our data centre from the hospital’s basement to the cloud, we will realise significant long-term cost savings while continuing to offer state-of-the-art diagnostic services for not just our 3D mammography images but for all of our patients’ images."

The 453-bed, acute-care hospital will use the cloud-based archive to address long-term storage needs and achieve cost cuts, improved efficiency and expanded imaging services. The hospital will use the archiving solution for 3D breast images as well as cardiac, orthopedic and oncology clinical data.

The Dell-Siemens solution, which includes a disaster recovery strategy, enables scalability without the overhead of maintaining and upgrading the storage infrastructure.

ISA replicates imaging data in three separate locations, including the Siemens Healthcare Computing Centre, and the data can be accessed by DICOM query within the enterprise or by authorised external users by means of common industry integration profiles.

Dell Healthcare and Life Sciences vice president and general manager James Coffin said that healthcare providers should not need to be experts in data storage and management.

"With Dell and Siemens, providers such as Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center can focus on what they do best while allowing trusted partners to manage their ongoing data centre needs," Coffin added.
