Waikato District Health Board (DHB) in New Zealand has announced that departments have begun moving into the new NZD$130m ($105m) Meade Clinical Centre on the Waiora Waikato Hospital Campus. The 39,000m² centre has been under construction since 2010.

The building is opening in four stages, with Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Equipment Pool and Linen Services starting the relocation. More clinics, theatres and interventional suites will progressively open in the hub-type system.

Biomedical Engineering, which is responsible for the service, repair and maintenance of over 12,300 medical assets including electronic medical equipment, dialysis machines and surgical instruments, will commence business from 20 August 2012.

Clinical Equipment Pool, which is responsible for the inventory and distribution of pooled equipment such as electrocardiographs, pressure-relieving mattresses and pumps, opens in the new facility on 17 August 2012.

Waikato DHB Business Services group manager Melinda Ch’ng said; "These services are the first off the block to move into the Meade Clinical Centre and it is very exciting to see the new building that has been a massive construction site for the last few years finally starting to become occupied."

Clinics focusing on dermatology, neurology, neurosurgery, hand, burns and scar therapy, phlebotomy and plastics are opening in the Meade Clinical Centre on 10 September 2012.
