The University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro (UMCPP), New Jersey, US, has installed Masimo Patient SafetyNet to track the underlying physiological conditions of patients.

Masimo Patient SafetyNet reduces rapid response activations, intensive care unit transfers and deaths associated with opioid-induced respiratory depression, by detecting changes and abnormalities that signal declining health status.

Princeton HealthCare System senior vice president of medical affairs and board-certified anaesthesiologist Linda Sieglen said, "We are committed to patient safety and incorporating new technologies and practices that will ensure that we continue to be considered among the safest hospitals in the nation."

"With Masimo technologies on the general floor, clinicians can be confident their patients are being watched even when they aren’t at the bedside, while families can be assured their loved ones are safe."

Clinicians receive wireless alerts from the system when a patient’s condition deteriorates, allowing a potentially lifesaving response to the patient’s bedside without delay.

The Masimo Patient SafetyNet system is comprised of Masimo SET measure-through motion and low perfusion pulse oximetry, a choice of patient-tolerant ventilation monitoring, and remote monitoring and notification to keep clinicians connected to patients.

Masimo chief medical officer Michael O’Reilly said the company has joined UMCPP in its mission to provide safe, cost-efficient care.
