Another key element of the overall SMART solution is the SMART hospital patient/nurse acuity platform, which provides information on staffing levels and skills mix.
As part of the next phase of the project, SMART e-Rostering, which is designed to ensure quality of staff and continuity of patient care, will be implemented at The Royal Oldham Hospital in October 2012.

"We are seeing huge interest from health boards, trusts and hospitals everywhere as they look for proactive ways to minimise risks to patient safety and services as well as nurture nursing talent and maximise budgets," Spencer added.
Pennine Acute Hospitals has reported several benefits since deploying SMART, such as increased staff empowerment and engagement, transparent rosters, and accurate management information.
