University General Health System (UGHS), an integrated multi-speciality health delivery system, has entered the next stage in the development of Alvin Community Hospital, an acute care hospital in Alvin, Texas, US.

The location of the proposed hospital is approximately a 30-minute drive from the company’s flagship University General Hospital in Houston, Texas.

The Alvin Community Hospital will be developed on a 20-acre campus in three phases.

The first phase includes a ten-bed hospital, a ten-bay emergency room and a diagnostic imaging centre.

The second and third phases will provide additional beds, services and infrastructure.

"The large underserved market of 125,000 people that live and work within ten miles of Alvin, which is located just south of Houston, generates 11,000 visits to emergency rooms and over 4,000 ambulance transports annually."

UGHS chairman and CEO Dr Hassan Chahadeh said the new hospital development complements the organisation’s growth strategy in furthering the regional expansion of the University General system, and provides physicians and patients with access to a high-quality healthcare facility close to their homes.

"The large underserved market of 125,000 people that live and work within ten miles of Alvin, which is located just south of Houston, generates 11,000 visits to emergency rooms and over 4,000 ambulance transports annually," Dr Chahadeh added.

UGHS also announced that all lawsuits related to the land investment, which previously delayed the project, have been dismissed with prejudice.

UGHS delivers physician-centric and patient-oriented services by providing timely, innovative health solutions that are competitive, efficient and adaptive in today’s healthcare delivery environment.

The company operates through three segments: hospital, senior living, and support services.
