Johnson Memorial Hospital, a 149-bed, not-for-profit facility in Franklin, Indiana, has selected HP’s Converged Infrastructure solution as a replacement for its existing infrastructure, in an effort to increase operational efficiency, ensure continuity and accelerate performance of healthcare applications.
Following implementation of the HP’s solution, the hospital’s business-critical applications are now performing 50 times faster, while its information systems experience zero downtime, the company said.
With the new IT solution, organisational and IT productivity at the facility has strengthened, as has the ability to restore users’ data.
The maintenance fee for a key application at the hospital has also been reduced by $50,000, which would save an estimated $250,000 in the next five years, the company added.
Johnson Memorial Hospital vice president and chief information officer Scott Krodel said the hospital’s existing IT environment was siloed and required IT staff to spend most of their time fixing point solutions, resulting in inefficient healthcare services.
"HP Converged Infrastructure enables us to manage our IT environment holistically and proactively, allowing us to use technology to enhance the delivery of care and services to our patients," Krodel added.
HP Converged Infrastructure comprises HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage and HP StoreOnce Backup, as well as HP ProLiant DL380 Blade Servers and HP BladeSystem c7000 Enclosures.
A single HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage array deployed in place of disparate primary storage systems provided the hospital with flexibility to allocate unused storage capacity where needed, thereby reducing the storage capacity for one of its radiology applications by 25%.
The hospital has also experienced four times faster backup and ten times faster recovery speeds by incorporating the HP StoreOnce 4000 Backup system into its disaster recovery strategy; its daily data backups and weekly backups now take just one hour for completion.
An additional HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage array was installed at the hospital’s disaster recovery site to ensure business continuity.
The two data centres at the hospital will deliver three levels of redundancy for all critical components during data replication and backup cycle. This includes automatic backups to HP StoreOnce performed every six hours without impacting workflow.
In addition, the hospital leverages the HP 3PAR Management Console for improved data centre efficiency, with simplified management and automatic provisioning of virtual volumes and drives with a few mouse clicks.
Johnson Memorial Hospital has more than 100 physicians and medical specialists who are dedicated to the residents of Johnson County and the surrounding areas.
