The majority of hospitals and clinics in Abu Dhabi, UAE, failed health inspections last year, according to Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD).

Last year HAAD inspectors made 1,300 visits and found that two-thirds of older facilities (315) did not pass the test, while only 156 facilities passed the test.

Even though newer facilities were better, only 55 out of 126 passed the test.

Some of the issues the inspectors had with the facilities were poor hygiene and infection control, improper maintenance of medical equipment and medical records, and non-compliance with clinical practice guidelines.

The inspectors also found that facilities were not regularly maintained and did not meet fire and safety standards.
