Public sector spending cuts in the UK are putting the NHS under severe pressure, a report by Unison has said.

The UK’s largest public service union surveyed more than 8,000 NHS staff, and found that hospitals are responding to Government spending cuts by freezing recruitment, cutting posts, outsourcing and restructuring.

A third of respondents said that this reduced the quality of patient care, while 80% said that workloads had increased.

Half of those surveyed also reported that they were struggling with staff shortages.
