Netcare KwaZulu, the operator St Augustine’s Hospital in Durban, South Africa, has been convicted on charges relating to illegal kidney transplants.

According to the South African Police Service, the illegal surgeries had been carried between 2001 and 2003.

The company has been sentenced to a fine and confiscations worth R7.82m ($1.1m).

Summons were also served on some of the employees of the hospital.
