Children’s Hospital Boston in the US has broken ground on a ten-storey building that is being built to accommodate growing numbers of patients.
The new building, estimated to cost $169m, will have 44 single-bed inpatient rooms, eight short-stay observation beds, 12 emergency-department beds and an expanded radiology department.
The 125,000ft² facility will be linked to the hospital’s existing building at each floor.
Children’s Hospital Boston chief executive Dr James Mandell said it is critical that the hospital continually reinvests in projects that expand its ability to serve its dual role as a community hospital and speciality paediatric hospital.
The new building is estimated to be completed by summer 2013.
