The state government of Edo, Nigeria, has unveiled plans to construct an ultra-modern hospital ward on the premises Edo State Specialist Hospital.

Authroities have signed a contract with a construction company Messers Sincies Chiementin International for the construction of a 120 bed inpatient ward.

The project, which also includes an accident ward and an emergency ward, is estimated to cost N2.48bn ($16m) and will be completed within 18 months.

The facilities are expected to provide relief for the already overstretched wards now in use at the hospital, and will also offer improved service to the patients.
