The redevelopment project at Riverland Regional Hospital in South Australia has moved ahead with the approval of the concept plans.

The redeveloped hospital will include two fully equipped theatres, four oncology chairs, six mental health beds and on-site clinical pharmacy services.

The hospital’s emergency department will be doubled in size, and will include two trauma rooms and four treatment rooms.

The hospital will also feature single rooms with ensuite bathrooms, which will provide greater privacy and infection control.

The project is estimated to cost A$41m ($40m), and construction is expected to begin in May 2011.
