Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital in Illinois, US, has opened a $49m expansion, which includes an outpatient surgery centre, on its Grayslake campus.

Nearly 80,000ft² has been added to the facility and around 7,500ft² has been renovated.

The outpatient surgery centre includes ten private recovery rooms equipped with flat-screen televisions and electronic medical records stations. The first procedure will be performed at the centre on an orthopaedic patient later this month.

The project also features an 8700ft² cancer centre that boasts top-of-the-line radiation equipment and offers chemotherapy and infusion treatments.

It will provide support groups, wellness and nutrition services, rehabilitation, social work and holistic care.

The hospital, which will treat 32,000 patients a year, will offer diagnostic imaging, laboratories, cardiac testing, physical and speech therapy, and an emergency centre.
