The US state of New Jersey will open a new 223-bed hospital in 2011 in the Hopewell Township, thanks to a $756m mortgage deal struck with the Federal Housing Administration.

Work started on the hospital in October 2008. The new funding will ensure it can provide state-of-the-art healthcare in Hopewell by 2011 and go towards the expansion of a nearby hospital in Trenton.

The 165-acre site will replace the existing Mercer hospital with a 540,000ft² six-storey hospital structure and will be connected to a six-storey medical office building with 320,000ft² of space.

In addition, the hospital will build two new medical-surgical units and accommodate services shifted from Mercer.
