New York will grant $175m for the restructure of hospital projects to reduce excess hospital capacity and duplication of services.

The aim is to avoid unnecessary hospitalisations, improve outpatient care and meet community needs.

The investment will be used for construction, renovation or buying equipment for restructuring, or legal and planning costs related to mergers or other deals.

The funding is a part of a $1bn healthcare reform effort based on the findings from the state’s Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century.
