The European Commission has called on European governments to create national strategies to improve their record on patient safety.
About 8–12% of patients admitted to hospitals become victims of medical errors each year and get infected with hospital-acquired bacteria such as MRSA.
The Commission wants national governments to share patient data and find common ways to identify and classify the safety problems, EuropeanVoice.com reports.
Governments have to prepare strategies to prevent these hospital infections and take measures so that health authorities can make patient safety a priority, the Commission said.
